History of School

School History – St. Peter’s N.S.

The school was built in 1957. It was officially opened Tuesday 18th February 1958.

It was built by Joe Mc Menamin, Ballybofey and was completed within 12 months, which was a record at the time for its size. The school was built in a field purchased from a Mary Claire Mc Rory near the football pitch.

It was called St. Peter’s – the patron saint of the Turas and the name of the lake beside the village.

There were 4 Teachers including the Principal.

They had moved from a school in Glencoagh as the building there was considered too small for the numbers.

There have been numerous extensions to the school since then, including classrooms, a hall, an office, a staff room, kitchen and some stores (outside)
