This year St. Peter’s took part in the Woodie’s Budding Gardeners Competition. We would like to say a huge thank you to Peter Haggan who assisted us every step of the way, and has been very generous with his time in our school garden throughout the year.
For the competition, we had 3 gardening tasks to complete in 3 months:
Task 1 ‘Bulbilicious’: In February, we planted some Dahlia bulbs at the front of our school in a beautiful handmade plant box from Peter. We hope to see them flowering very soon!
Task 2 ‘The Snack Box’: In March, we planted some lettuce from seed into window boxes. Once they had germinated and the frosty weather subsided, we transplanted them into our school garden. We can’t wait to have some tasty homegrown lettuce leaves for our sandwiches!
Task 3 ‘Micro Meadow’: In April, we got busy in our woodland garden and planted some wildflower seeds in various patches throughout. We had great fun predicting what sort of flowers and colours will spring up over the next few weeks!

Make sure to have a look at all our gardening endeavours next time you’re passing the school – we love to see other people admiring our hard work!!!!!
